Will the oldest of the Sloan girls finally be able to break through to the heart of the man who has had hers prisoner for years? Will this single father finally realize that accepting his love for Haley may be just what his little girl needs to get the family they both deserve?
One choice. Three lives. All tempting.
Melanie Shawn is so excited to welcome the amazing Violet Duke as the subject of this month’s author spotlight! 😄 NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Violet Duke is not only a fabulous writer, but a really good friend of ours. If you haven’t devoured her books yet, you’ve GOTTA check them out!
Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)? I call the last leg of my writing process the “turkey oven timer” part where absolutely no amount of pleading, growling, or bribing will get that timer to ding. It needs to get there on its own. I’ve found that if I force it or try and trick it to ding by being all sneaky and writing lots and lots of words down, I end up going crazy with the delete button (and if wild rumors are accurate, throwing things). So when it’s in that leg, I do two things. 1) Rearrange furniture in my house. LOL! And 2) sit MVD (Mr. Violet Duke) down and make him listen to all the thoughts in my head about the book. He’s an expert nodder. Usually after those two steps, the turkey timer goes off and I’m able to finish the book. *grin* No matter what, I need the MVD nodding. It’s a key part of my process.
What are you working on now? What is your next project? My next series, the Unfinished Love series! OMG, I love these four heroes – for fans of my books, as you well know, these are the Spencer brothers’ books. The tagline for the series is: Four brothers, each fighting for their second first chance at love. Years be damned. I’m finishing up edits on the first couple and drafting the story for the second couple. Fun!
Do you write in sweats, PJs, naked, or regular ol’ real people life clothes? In Mutts cartoon PJs (so comfy!)! And sometimes a towel (I surprisingly get a lot of writing ideas in the shower and find myself having to run to the computer lest it fall out of my head never to be found again). Why yes, there have been times where a daytime shower has led to one such race to the computer…and eventually, a tap on my shoulder from my husband sometime around dinner…without an ounce of surprise that I’m sitting there typing in my towel. LMAO! He gets me.
Do your characters ever surprise you? Always! They quite enjoy throwing me for a loop. Probably my punishment for not letting them have sex nearly as soon (and as often) as they want. LOL!
If you weren’t an author, what would you do for a living? Perish the thought! *crosses fingers, toes, and eyes* *cartwheels backward while spitting on a flying roach* *chants to the writing gods in ancient Klingon*
Can you tie a cherry stem in a knot in your mouth? If so, how fast? Yep! *grin* Pretty quickly. I think my tongue is as double-jointed as the rest of my joints. *beams* Back during my wild doctorate days in Arizona, that little trick used to… Wait a minute. *looks around* *re-adjusts shiny halo* Umm… *scandalized gasp* What is this cherry-stem-tying you speak of???
Do you sing in the shower? If so, what is your go-to song? I don’t really sing without music. So no, not in the shower. But I sing in the car like I’m freaking on American Idol. *beams* My songs of choice? Usually booty club music from the nineties. Incidentally, singing these songs makes me think I’m on the Fast & the Furious for some strange reason. *zoom*
Do you love or hate roller coasters? If love, which is your favorite? If hate, why? I can’t ride any because of my brain condition! We only have little ones at the occasional fair here in Hawai‘i so I’ve never ridden any big ones, but I enjoyed the little ones when I was younger!
What is your dream vacation? I know it’s weird since I live on an island but I only like going to other islands. LOL! I’m not a city girl at all (gives me hives). So I’m always wanting to go to even *more* tropical places. *grin* I’ve always wanted to stay in one of those huts on the water in like Bora Bora. Dive into the water from my front door, fish all day, eat said fish, and play with my hubby and kids. Definitely my dream vacation.
What was your first alcoholic drink? What age were you when you consumed it? Errr. I’m going to have to plead the fifth. On a totally unrelated note, what do I love drinking now that I’m totally legal? Beer and tequila. I love Mexican beer and most dark beers. And I love my tequila with tabasco or li hing mui (it’s a local Hawai‘i thing).
Deep dish OR thin crust? Deep dish!
Current release: Love, Exes, and Ohs (Cactus Creek)
Isaac McKnight has had enough loss in his life to know never to take anything for granted. So when the perfectly-imperfect-woman-for-him puts an end to their relationship out of the blue, it’s Isaac that makes sure they remain friends. Now a year later, whether it’s at his gym or her brewpub, or the dog park they visit every weekend–though neither of them own a dog–he and Xoey are steadily getting sucked deeper into buddy-zone galaxy, with its dangerous proximity to watch-me-settle-down-with-someone-else abyss. It’s a reality he’s resigned himself to. That is…until one drunken confession changes everything.
But she’s looking for the perfect oh…
For Xoey Montenegro, history has taught her that sometimes, it’s Prince Charming who vanishes without a trace. And fairytale love? Highly overrated. Heck, give her a real and perfect ‘oh’ over that fantasy any day. So as far as rock-solid tequila-fueled plans for her love life go, coming up with a match-finding formula based on the qualities of the men responsible for her three most epic ohs seems brilliant. Except for the fact that one-third of her genius little man-quation is all about her friend Isaac. Actually, more than a third if Xoey were being honest with herself–which she’s not. Because full honesty would require thinking not just about how perfect Isaac really is, but also about how perfect the fourth epic oh she’s kept buried deep in her past once was.
